Guilderland Pop Warner Cheer Parents: I am writing personally today to solicit your assistance. For many years GPW has been one of the most respected and revered Cheer Programs in both the Capital District Pop Warner Association and in New York State. That tradition of excellence is threatened for 2010. I am obligated to report to you that at this juncture (June 2010), GPW has only head coaches on board for the 2010 season. Those coaches, Gail Darrigo, Renate Simpson and Suzanne Fiori have agreed to coach our Cub, Pee Wee and Junior Midget Teams. This means that we have no head coaches for our other levels. Barring anyone from the association stepping forward and volunteering to coach we will be unable to field cheer teams at the Mitey Mite or junior Pee Wee levels in 2010. This is unprecedented in GPW's history and means that perhaps 50 girls will be unable to cheer this season. All is not lost, however. There is still time for volunteers to step up and take responsibility for our Mitey Mites or Junior Pee Wee Team. You do not need to have cheer experience, rather just a talent for organization, a good rapport with kids and the willingness to give up your time. Our provided training, cheer coordinator and the varsity and junior varsity junior coaches can do the rest! Time is short, however. By July 13th (sneaker night) we need to have head coaches on board for the season. Capital District Pop Warner places strict guidelines on the Coach/player ratio while also mandating that all head coaches attend a special training session the first week in August. We all lead busy lives and I do understand the commitment required to coach a cheer team. However anyone who has attended the Cheer Competitions at the Time Union Center or in New Jersey would agree that the way the girls run to their coaches after finishing their routine in front of thousands of people is worth all the hours put in coaching the girls each season. Please consider stepping up and volunteering. Contact any board member if you have the time to help!
